May 25, 2007, Newsletter Issue #67: High Risk Auto Insurance: The Under 20 Crowd

Tip of the Week

The highest rate of fatal car crashes among licensed drivers relative to other age groups (including the elderly) occurs in the 15-20 year old age group. Auto crashes are the leading cause of death in the 15-20 year old age group as well.

Many states are enacting laws to help lower these statistics, including enacting lower Blood Alcohol Content (BAC) limits and requiring completion of a more demanding training program before granting full driving privileges. Not surprisingly, many younger drivers qualify for high-risk car insurance due to their increased chance of having an accident that is their fault.

One way younger drivers can save on their car insurance is to select higher deductibles on their collision and comprehensive coverage.
