Are there any state-subsidized car insurance programs?

State-Subsidized Car Insurance

The economy is in a rough state at present, and that can make finding ways to pay for car insurance extremely difficult. But since a certain level of auto insurance coverage is required by almost every state in the United States, drivers don't have the luxury of dropping their insurance coverage if they lose their job or can't afford to pay their bills.

Many states are currently discussing the possibility of state-subsidized auto insurance coverage. Others are discussing emergency funding measures to help drivers keep the minimal insurance they need to be in compliance with the law. When you consider the expense and burden that unpaid claims due to lost insurance coverage would have on all drivers in the United States, you can easily see why a state-subsidized solution may be necessary.

If you want to find out whether or not your state has or is considering any kind of social car insurance program, check with your state's department of insurance.
