You know those commercials that say spend 15 minutes and save hundreds of dollars on your automobile insurance? What they don't tell you is that the price quoted online or by phone may only be state mandated minimum coverage. Unless you drive a beater and have no assets state-mandated minimum coverage is a poor choice. It doesn't cover you should you have an accident with an uninsured or underinsured driver. In short state-mandated minimum insurance requirements are only designed to protect people from you and offer you no protection if you are at fault or have the misfortune to be involved in a crash with an uninsured or underinsured driver. Also, mandatory state limits are not sufficient in the event that you cause an accident resulting in property damage, injury to others, or fatalatiy
