Are there any teen autp insurance laws?

Teen Auto Insurance Laws

Luckily, there are no individual insurance laws dealing with teen drivers. Each state does, however, have auto insurance laws that apply to all drivers, and that includes your teen. When thinking about teen auto insurance laws, consider each of the following:

  • Liability coverage: All states but one require some form of bodily injury and property damage liability coverage for their drivers. While each state has its own minimum required amounts for this coverage, you may want to get a higher amount of insurance for your teen, since he or she is an inexperienced driver.
  • Personal Injury Protection (PIP): A few states require personal injury protection to protect your teen against being injured in an accident. Even if your state doesn't require it, you might wish to carry it to avoid any health insurance claim issues.
  • Uninsured motorist coverage: In order to protect drivers against damage caused by a uninsured motorists, some states require special insurance coverage. Even if your state does not, it is a good idea to carry it, since teens are often unfamiliar or inexperienced in defensive driving tactics and are more likely to have an accident in general.
